This presentation will explore AI tools with students in the elementary/primary, using age-appropriate AI tools such as text to image, image to text and custom chatbots in a safe and ethical way to personalise learning, embrace multilingualism and nurture creativity

Session Goals:

  • Develop an introductory understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in primary education and its potential to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Identify and explain key AI concepts and terminologies that are appropriate for young learners.
  • Explore and experiment with a selection of age-appropriate AI tools, gaining insights into their practical application in primary classroom settings.
  • Discuss the potential benefits of AI in primary education, such as supporting personalised learning experiences, saving time for teachers, and personalising learning.
  • Reflect on the challenges and ethical considerations of using AI in primary education, with a focus on ensuring data privacy, promoting responsible use, and understanding the limitations of AI technologies.

Stephanie Thompson is the Digital Learning Coach for the primary school at Nexus International School in Singapore. Originally from Canada and raised in New Zealand, Stephanie has taught in New Zealand, South Korea, Romania, and Singapore. After over a decade as a homeroom teacher, she now teaches digital technology classes and supports staff in integrating technology effectively into their teaching practices. Stephanie is passionate about using technology to connect classrooms globally, personalise learning experiences, and enhance student engagement.
